Here is my walk around of Hamvention 2024. Hamvention is the largest amateur radio convention in the United States with over 30k attendees. It started out wet and rainy but ended really nice. In this video are some cool radio equipped vehicles and tons of radio equipment new and old. Enjoy. Mike WG7D

I also did the Wright Brothers National Museum and bike shop in Dayton,Ohio. This national Museum has more Wright artifacts on display than any other place in the world, including the 1905 Wright Flyer III: the only airplane designated a National Historic Landmark.

The airforce museum in Dayton,Ohio is the largest museum I have ever been to. It's a fantastic collection of historic aircraft and memorabilia. I walked 5 miles that day...I should have had breakfast before. It's a long video because of the massive size of the collection...enjoy! WG7D

Thanks for the video. Would be great if someone bought it and kept it open. Imagine being a young kid getting into amateur radio and spending hours exploring that place.
This place was the source of so many transmitters parts and other bits that put so many pirates on the air back in the days before EBay ! Getting tubes was always hard but these people had them all ! The legendary Allen Wiener mentioned them many times in his biography.
I have to go up there I saw some military antennas for vehicles!
Nice video
boa noite, ok, vao a leilao, muito bom vai ser tudo aproveitado, um abraço, 73.
Thanks...73,WG7D
My husband and I really enjoyed this. Dosents were really on their game. Thanks for the tour!

Wow...very nice. You did a great job showcasing the cover.
El pelado está loco
This place will be missed by me.
"X enia"?
*It's pronounced 'Lime-aw' with the Ohio accent. Good stuff they got, I want some!*
Thanks,I was not sure. Thanks for watching. WG7D
I never saw so many old men in one place..
Yeah, it's been difficult to get the young cell phone generation interested, but we try.
Thank you for posting this video. Made several purchases from FRS over the years. Impromptu interaction with some history talk was priceless. Still, the end of Fair Radio Sales me sad. n2eye
Thanks for watching...it is sad to see it close. WG7D
That was a lumberyard back in the day.
I have ben dealing with Fair Radio since 1961 and even drove down with a friend while we were both still in High School. Many treasured memories.
It all be a sad day when Fair Radio sales closes it doors!
Yes, it will be. Such an institution! Thanks for Watching. WG7D
I am the generation that just missed that 'surplus' experience. I was just old enough to remember driving by shops like this but never went into one. ;)
They were so fun...like a museum that every thing is for sale. Thanks for watching WG7D
I was always fascinated by their printed catalogs back in the 70/80:s...But the oldtime ham equipment, DIY & very few, very big (surplus) parts, which did a lot, i can imagine not many is into that anymore... But certainly you can still find projects in old ARRL handbooks & such... (I remember you could even order surplus Tommy guns... But not from Sweden... DEFENITELY not from Sweden...)
Their are several surplus places in Portland area. The on he is talking about is wacky Willie's surplus. Then we had R5D3, Cascade electronics, surplus gizmo's.
My first scope came from Fair Radio Sales, as did the huge stepper motors driving my Bridgeport. Two more great places are Glenn's Surplus in Shelby OH, and JDM surplus in Crestline OH. JDM used to be called CTR.
Excelente video, gracias, CE1GWX, 73.

I remember going to Fair Radio in my High School days, back in the 70s.
Typical hogfest, fat people walking aimlessly looking for a bargain and finding later it doesn’t work, then listing it on a swap shop to recycle the same junk
👍
Wow. Too far from me😊 That’s a lot of radio history there, HROs Heathkits
😳
IT SHAKES ME THINKING OF WHAT WILL BE THROWN IN THE DUMPSTER. ALL THESE BOAT ANCHORS ARE TOO COSTLY TO SHIP AND FEW WILL BUY THEM FOR THAT REASON. MAYBE A BIG SURPLUS SELLER WILL SEND IN A SEMI TRAILER OR TWO AND RESCUE THIS STUFF. THERE WAS A COMPANY IN MIAMI NAMED MICROWAVE EQUIPMENT COMPANY THAT WAS ABOUT 5 TIMES LARGER THAN FAIR RADIO AND STACKED FLOOR TO CEILING WITH EVERYTHING FROM RADAR SETS TO SMALL PARTS. WHEN THEY CLOSED UP IT WAS A SAD DAY.
I didn't realize that this was on the way too and from Dayton and I could have stopped in. I will have to try and check it out before it closes, if I can.
I hope you found your way to the infield of the harness racing track over by the grandstands. If not, you missed the majority of the flea market.
They had a good run. Unfortunately the generation of the surplus radios is thinning out and not much market for the stuff any more. Hate to see it go .. I hated to lose Heath and Radio Shack and Lafayette and Allied .. Thanks for the tour .. hope the owners enjoy a long and healthy retirement once everything is sold off.
Great video, very interesting plus your DJI pocket 3 looks nice and crisp compared to others on the market .. Thanks for sharing 🇬🇧
Thanks for watching! love the pocket 3.
I had ordered a few items from them in my high school days back in the 70s. It’s a shame to see it go. I never knew how large that facility is! IMHO, I think that they should make some arrangement with museums or the Smithsonian to preserve at least some of it for posterity.
Some nice vintage kit there, wrong voltage for my country sadly.
Isso só demonstra que no Brasil não temos nada ..kkkk O governo corrupto do Brasil nos proibe de comprar radios colocando imposto de 200% em cima
Just passed you between Spokane and Cheney.
Caught us heading home to the Tri-Cities. Take care.
Loved the face when she tried it.
It was a classic! Thanks for watching.
Mike you always do a great job with your videos, love riding alone on your travels. I have health issues so traveling long distances is very hard for me. All the best you and your wife, 73
Thanks so much ! I enjoy filming and the editing.
From Texas, living in Xenia currently... was very sad to miss hamvention because of work, but so glad to see and hear all the other hams and even made some good contacts while I was sitting in my office! 73 from W5TGL
That use to be a lumber store back in the early 2000 I believe they have been in lima for ever I knew the lumber store like the back of my hand up until they closed there doors then it sat empty for a few years until fair raido bought it
Thanks ! I thought it looked like a lumber yard. Thanks for watching,WG7D
Thank you for allowing me to be there virtually. Greetings and 73 from Edwin YV5EN (66 years old, CW operator since 1979)
Any time! Thanks for watching,WG7D
Brilliant Tour thank you for taking time to go around the stands wow you guys put some amazing radio rallys keep up the good work enjoyed watch it just Brilliant De 2E1FUE UK 🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks for watching,WG7D
There is no younger people any where insight. Most are my age or older. What happens when all these people are pass away. Most of the old equipment will end up in landfills which should have been long ago. May be one or two will end up in storage spaces like my collection (I have spent 20,000 for storage alone since the 1990s) for items that are worth $2000. I am 65 years old from Canada and have attended this fest and the Fair Radio Sales in the 90s. Only item I am interested now are the urine bottles at 30:25. Thanks for this gentleman for this and the Fair radio sales videos.
You are right sir. Thanks for watching,WG7D
Yes, I have purchased plenty of ham radio stuff from these folks, 171 Texas, here
Thank you for the tour!!! My last Hamvention was in 2006. Moved halfway across the world and until I am fully retired, probably won’t make it back for a year or two.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching,WG7D
I never thought this store would on RUclips. I have been to this place in the 90s. Nothing is forever.
Very true. Thanks for watching,WG7D
More boat anchors than the US Navy ! Seriously though, the prop department at a Hollywood movie studio should buy this place.
Good idea!
